Trendz Consignment

Project Overview

Timeless Treasures, historic setting

This historic building, the oldest commercial structure in downtown Brookings, SD, has undergone significant exterior renovations while preserving its rich history. Originally designed in 1879 as a Masonic temple for Brookings Lodge #24, the building still proudly displays its original insignia from 1894. Over the years, it has been home to 15 different stores including Trendz Consignment, making it a cornerstone of the city’s commercial evolution. The recent updates included the careful removal of exterior masonry to install a new storefront system, along with new windows and a restored recessed entrance.

In keeping with the buildingโ€™s historical integrity, a pipe handrailing and concrete front steps were crafted to replicate the original design. While Trendz Consignment has moved to a new location, the building currently houses a wine bar and coffee house on the main floor, this revitalized space honors its past while serving the present community. Recognized for its preservation efforts, the project received both the Mayor’s Award for “Exterior Commercial Rehabilitation” and the A.B.L.E. Award for its commitment to ADA compliance.
